Elisa has been training teachers for over 15 years to integrate storytelling into all aspects of the curriculum and classroom culture. She worked from 1989 to 2003 as an adjunct professor through Lesley University's Creative Arts in Learning Master's Program. Through the program Elisa traveled around the country training teachers to use storytelling effectively in the classroom. Her latest book, Once Upon a Time: Storytelling for Character Education and Bullying Prevention (2006), reflects much of learning she gained working with K-8 teachers during that time.

Elisa will come to your school and provide teacher training workshops to fit your needs. Often she will begin with a performance of stories for the student body, and then give a 1.5 to 3 hour workshop for teachers. In the workshop Elisa leads teachers through gentle steps to show them how they can effectively use storytelling in the classroom to foster character and prevent bullying. Storytelling skills that any teacher can easily master are practiced in small groups, and each teacher comes away with at least one new story to tell. Follow-up activities are also demonstrated to help teachers to draw the most learning from the stories. The focus of the workshop can also be to help teachers to train students to be effective storytellers and story makers. This process promotes improved oral and written skills and confidence for the students, and also a greater understanding of the ideas presented in the stories they are working with.

The workshop uses Elisa's new book full of stories and follow-up activities as a guide and one copy of the book will be given to the school for future reference and use of the 99 stories it contains.
