Telling our Stories in New Ways: A Workshop on Self-Forgiveness

Are the stories you tell about yourself totally compassionate and forgiving? Most of us hold shame for aspects of ourselves, and even blame ourselves deep down for the wounding experiences we have had. Forgiveness work offers us an opportunity to look at and relate to our stories of wounding in new ways. It guides us to let go of shame, and to embrace all of who we are. It frees us from self-blame that we may not even realize we are carrying. In this experiential workshop, participants will explore through the medium of story the process of forgiving ourselves for being human. We will work with the metaphors of an old Celtic tale and with personal stories through telling and writing exercises. The storytelling is casual and no experience is necessary. Bring a journal and an open heart for self and others.

Recent Events:

I recently led a workshop for high school students in the Citizen Schools Alumni program. These young people speak at many functions to raise money and awareness for the Citizen Schools programs that help so many elementary and middle school students around the country. The goal of the workshop was to help them to articulate their experiences more effectively. Here is what the Alumni coordinator said about my workshop:
The workshop that Elisa led was fantastic.  After a long week at school our students entered a bit tired, but over the course of two hours, our students left energized by their ability to tell a compelling story about their own life.  The structure of the workshop was well planned and executed and met the needs ofour students.  I saw shy students tell powerful stories.  All of my students enjoyed going through the storytelling process and learning how they could articulate events in their life they cared about.  I highly recommend Elisa and her workshops.  I look forward to the next one.  Dan Rosen – Alumni Services Coordinator – Citizen Schools Boston  www.citizenschools.org
